A spectacular view can be seen from the 12 m high observation tower of the Southern Pier, and the port territory with the sea gates at the downriver of Venta is well visible from there. An observation tower is a place loved by the residents and tourists watching sunset, magnificent waves during the storm and the big ferries entering the port. Binoculars for nature watching have been set on the observation platform of the tower. A resting place with benches has also been arranged at the top of it.
The observation tower of the Southern Pier of Ventspils was built on the foundation of the Soviet Union’s former locator tower, adjusting it for the visitors. Foundation of the tower is located on approximately seven meters high dune; the total height of the tower is approximately 19 metres above the sea level. The tower is located at the Ventspils Southern Pier (Medņu Street).
