Lake Teperis promenade

This is one of the most beautiful city parks in Latvia with a lake with a floating fountain.

There you may explore a well-equipped promenade with places for recreation, boat rental, sports grounds, several bridges, a fountain illuminated in the dark and a local “waterfall” – a water cascade one can walk under.

Here you can enjoy a relaxing walk or do some active sports: in summer – volleyball, swimming, cycling, rollerblading; in winter – ice skating, skiing or Nordic walking. The park has an outdoor gym that operates 24/7.

The old park is located between Teperis and Vidusezers lakes connected by the Abuls river. On the shores of the Vidusezers lake one may find the ruins of the castle of the German order built in the 14th century.

Lake Teper was created by damming the Abula River. The picturesque surroundings of the lake are a popular resting place for Smiltenes and city guests. Opportunity to see the promenade of Lake Teper, the dam and the floating fountain, which is illuminated at night. Well-maintained recreation areas, swimming areas and sports fields. At first, the lake was called Kalnezers, because at the bottom was Vidus Lake. The waters of the lake powered a water wheel connected to a hammer lifting shaft. Due to the large hammer, the lake was called Ēmurs. In the bankruptcy of the railway owner, it was taken over by the Estonian Tepfers. Since then, the lake bears the name of its last owner of the iron hammer – Tepfer. The lake is now known as Teperis.
