Ransomes Sims & Jefferies mobile threshing machine

Ransomes Sims & Jefferies mobile threshing machine

Year of production: Beginning of the 20th century

This is mobile threshing machine intended for threshing grassland seeds. It was moved by six to eight horses and powered either by a steam engine or by a stationary engine, for example, blaze head and petroleum engine.

In Latvia, threshing machines of this kind were used at the beginning of the 20th century when they were imported from abroad. Later threshing machine "Imanta", manufactured in Latvia gained great popularity. It was produced until 1958. Later harvesters were used to thresh grain.

This threshing machine was delivered to Latvia by special order and is a great rarity; the company "Ransomes Sims & Jefferies" mainly produced steam locomobiles.

This particular threshing machine was used to thresh grass seeds in the collective farm "Komunārs" of Saldus District. There is lack of information on how it became property of the collective farm, but after the restoration of Latvia's independence, this threshing machine became a property of a private person and is now available for public interest.
