Inčukalns Devil’s Cave

It is said that the Devil used to live in this cave, but was banished by the God of Thunder. The cave features massive dome-shaped ceiling and a spring said to possess healing powers. It is forbidden to visit the cave from autumn through spring, so as not to disturb the hibernation of bats.

This cave is some 5 –6 thousand years old. Through narrow passage (1 m wide) one can enter into large hall, here it is dark already. Height of the dome-shaped ceiling – 4,15 m, width – 4 m, floor area – 33 m2. Devil's cave is crossed by small stream two times. First time it goes in sandstone above the cave, second time - under the cave. One can hear the stream when sitting int the silence of the cave for a while.

People believed in healing powers of this spring, there were left coins as sacrifice. Cave described by J. Broce in 1790 already.
