Lake Valgumsis 3 km long and 0.2 km wide, and in the deepest place, it is 30 metres deep. The legend says that when the bishop Albert was driving along the lake, some robbers had attacked him, robbed him of everything, and taken people in captivity. Only bishop himself had gotten away, but the golden chariot was pulled into the lake by the six white horses, where it could be seen in clear weather even today. The legends also tell that the Kurzeme’s Duke Jacob had often spent time next to the lake and hunted in the nearby forests, where the remains of his hunting castle are still preserved. But Duke Friedrich Kazimir had created a zoo here.
