At the end of Kūrmājas Prospekts in the Seaside Park is a monument in commemoration of the perished fishermen and seafarers – a statue of a woman looking into the distance toward the sea, waiting for sailors who have not returned.
On the base of the monument is a plaque in memory of the pilots and crew of a US airplane that was shot down over the sea on 8 April 1950 by USSR military forces.
Locals also call this monument the Vēja Māte, or Mother of Wind, thus indicating the place where to meet before heading for the beach together.
