Viesīte Evangelical Lutheran Church or Viesīte Freedom Church is situated on the 8-metre high Valeskalniņš. The first sacral building in Viesīte was erected only in 1939, until then the Lutheran inhabitants belonged to the Sunākste parish. The church, designed by architect Pauls Kundziņš, was named the Freedom Church at the suggestion of the congregation in honour of the fights of Freedom. The Church of Liberty is the last Lutheran house of worship built in Latvia before World War 2, which was consecrated in the First Advent of 1939. renovated in 1994 by artist Ligita Caunes, the church's interior is home to the altar painting she created, “faith, hope, love.” Access to the church by stairs from Viesīte Secondary School or Kaļķu Street (Stadiona side).
