The construction of the church headed by the Suntaži resident Jānis Millers began on 8th November 1996. Construction works were stopped for some time, but they were resumed in 2006. In the presence of His Eminence Cardinal, Jānis Pujāts, the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church of Suntaži was consecrated on 19th July 2009. The most impressive element of the church is the altar built in French Baroque style. Since 2009, a church bell which had been together with the faithful residents of Ilūkste for good and for bad, calling them to services for 225 years, has found its new home at the Catholic church of Suntaži.
