Liepāja Luther Church

Liepāja Luther Church is the largest church constructed during Latvia’s independence years. Construction began in 1914 and it was built in the shape of a cross from stones quarried in Finland.

The church’s monumental exterior sharply contrasts with the bright and delicate interior. It has excellent acoustics, perfect for both church services and classical music concerts.

Luther’s Church is the only church in Latvia to have two organs. President Kārlis Ulmanis gave the church an electric organ in 1938, however it stopped working after 50 years of use. After a long search, a new organ was found for the church in 2007. They were received with the assistance of a master organ builder Jānis Kalniņš from a church in Stockholm, where they had been in use for only 40 years.
