Territory surrounding Stikli is rich not only with swamps and forests, but also with sand. Sand used to have such a good quality, that glass factory was opened in this area in 1853, by the way in Puze this place is still referred to as Vecfabrīķis (The Old Factory).
In 1897 Annahites Glass Factory was launched and that is why this place in Latvia is called Stikli (translation – Glass).
There used to be a humble saw mill and forge. In 1900 right there on the bank of a lake in Stikli, Annahites hunting castle was built and manager of the factory used to live there. During the WW2 in 1944 there used to be a staff for Latvian guards. The building is still there.
In 1926 there was a fire in the factory that caused loss and in 1928 they had to close the factory. Insurance money was used to build new glass factory in Sarkandaugava, Rīga.
