The first wooden bridge over the Gauja in Valmiera was built in 1865. It was destroyed during the war in 1919, restored a year later, and burned again in 1941. In 1942, a reinforced concrete bridge was built, which was last reconstructed in 1963. This bridge served Valmiera residents until the end of 2011. From October 2011 to December 2012, the bridge was reconstructed. Lighting fixtures in the form of a double W are installed on the new bridge.
